Healthcare and AI

AI use in healthcare companies is widespread. It can help identify patients to enroll in clinical trials, help doctors decide on a drug to best treat their patient, or help a biotech company identify potential drug candidates, among many other potential functions.
While we believe the use of AI will result in operational and possibly research efficiencies, we also know it is not a silver bullet. Therefore, we look for companies that use AI to augment an already proven mechanism of a therapeutic, to find best suited end users or prescribers, or to supplement data analysis.
Some companies that employ AI in their businesses and discuss it openly include EXAS and NTRA (cancer screening and monitoring), and BNTX (cancer therapeutics).

Others include IQV (a CDMO that helps companies run effective clinical trials), and NRIX (to help it synthesize novel degrader candidates).

We’ve evaluated others that use AI for drug discovery and development, but just because a company is using AI doesn’t (at least yet) improve the odds that a drug candidate will make it to market and be a commercial success.
It is important to be discerning. Â
