CEO Robert Playter to step down amid robotics strategy shift

Robert Playter, CEO of Boston Dynamics, is resigning effective Feb 27, 2026 after over 30 years with the company and six years as chief executive. Playter guided the company through commercialization of products like Spot and the all‑electric Atlas humanoid robot and through ownership changes culminating in Hyundai Motor Group’s acquisition. Amanda McMaster, CFO, will serve as interim CEO while a search for a successor proceeds.

Some analysts view Playter’s departure as potentially signaling a strategic shift toward faster commercialization of Boston Dynamics’ robotic platforms under Hyundai’s robotics push.
