Globus Medical (NYSE: GMED) is adding another layer to its surgical technology platform.
The company acquired Higgs Boson Health, a Duke University-incubated digital health company whose platform follows patients through surgery and recovery while providing clinicians with real-time patient information.

The Higgs Boson team includes software developers and AI scientists, and its technology will become part of Globus' “surgical intelligence” platform—connecting patient engagement, outcomes data and analytics.

Globus is already known for spine and orthopedic technologies, including robotic and navigation systems.
Founded in 2017, Higgs Boson Health developed an AI-driven digital platform that guides patients through complex surgical journeys and recovery, providing clinicians with real-time visibility between visits.
The platform turns patient-reported insights into actionable data, supporting patients, caregivers, and clinicians at scale. It was supported by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center with two $250,000 Small Business Research Loans.
Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Strategically, however, it's another indication that the surgical-robotics race is increasingly becoming a software, data and AI race as well.
